How music gets onto Beatport
Beatport says it plainly: to sell your music there, you need a record label that distributes to Beatport or a distributor that works with independent artists. There is no upload button. We deliver the audio, artwork and metadata, and Beatport pays what the release earns back through us.
Its customers are DJs. They buy tracks as downloads, or stream them through Beatport Streaming, a subscription built for DJs that plays inside DJ software and hardware and, on the higher plans, keeps an offline library for sets without a connection. Beatport is used worldwide.
Genres: electronic music first
Beatport's catalogue is built around electronic and dance music — Techno, Tech House, House, Drum & Bass, Melodic House, Trance, Afro House, Amapiano and the rest of its genre list. Its content policy asks for music in its accepted genres, professionally mixed and mastered, and lists what it does not want:
- Music that is not dance or electronic
- AI-generated music
- Ringtones
- Sleep, relaxation or background-only audio
Beatport has added "open format" sections — hip-hop, R&B, pop, Latin and similar — for DJs who play across styles. Releases sent through us are still checked by Beatport against its electronic genres, and releases in other genres have been refused. So the release editor treats Beatport as an electronic store: tick it for a release in another genre and it warns you before you publish.
Pick the closest genre honestly. Beatport's curation team reviews new tracks and can move one to a different genre if it was filed in the wrong place.
Beatport and AI
Beatport does not accept music that is wholly or substantially generated by AI, or AI that clones another artist's voice or performance without cleared permission. Since August 2026 it has been holding back tracks that are wholly or mostly made by AI. It works with the detection company Beatdapp to spot them on delivery, and can reject or remove a track it suspects.
AI tools that help a person make music are a different matter. Beatport says assistive tools for mixing, mastering, stem separation and ordinary audio processing are not a problem.
Greenroom and Hype
Beatport Greenroom
Greenroom is Beatport's home for artists and labels. Once you have claimed your artist profile there, you can update your photo and bio, look into the analytics for your releases, and list upcoming events.
Beatport Hype
Hype is a paid subscription for smaller independent labels already releasing on Beatport, below a sales level Beatport sets. Hype labels get their own picks, release tiles and banners on Hype genre pages, and a Hype Top 100 chart that only Hype tracks can enter. Beatport is clear that Hype does not guarantee features or sales: features are still chosen by its editors.
Your label profile
Every Beatport release is linked to a label profile, and Beatport links each label profile to one distributor at a time. If your label already sells on Beatport through another distributor, talk to us before your first release with us. Spell the label name exactly as it appears on Beatport; a different spelling does not map to the same label.
Releasing on Beatport, step by step
- Apply and set up your artistAccounts are opened by application — tell us about your music and we usually have you ready within one working day.
- Choose an electronic genre and your label nameHouse, Techno, Deep House, Electronica and the other electronic genres in the release editor go to Beatport. The label name is free text — use the exact spelling of your Beatport label.
- Upload a finished masterLossless WAV, FLAC or AIFF and square artwork of at least 2400 × 2400 px. Beatport wants professionally mixed and mastered music, not demos.
- Tick Beatport and the other storesEvery plan includes every store at no extra charge. The release editor checks Beatport's genre rule before you publish, and we deliver approved releases within 24 hours.
- Claim your Greenroom profileOnce the release is live, claim your artist profile and fill in your photo and bio.
Timing matters more on Beatport than on most stores. It prefers releases about three weeks before release day and assigns store features about two weeks out, so a late delivery is not considered for them.
How Beatport pays you
Beatport earns in two ways: DJs buying your tracks as downloads, and DJs streaming them on Beatport Streaming. Both are reported back to us and paid into your wallet.
| Plan | Price | Your share of Beatport royalties |
|---|---|---|
| Release | $8.99 per release | 90% |
| Artist | $29.99 a year, unlimited releases | 100% |
| Label | $149 a year, up to 10 artists | 100% |
| Label Partner | No fee | 85% |
Stores report in arrears — most about two months after the month the sales happened. Your earnings land in your TempoDigital wallet in US dollars, and above $70 you can withdraw by Payoneer, PayPal, Wise or bank transfer.
Mistakes that get Beatport releases refused
- The wrong genre. A release outside the electronic genres is refused. Leave Beatport unticked for it.
- AI-generated tracks. Wholly or mostly AI-made music is held back or removed.
- A label tied to another distributor. One label profile, one distributor. Sort it out before release day.
- Delivering late. Inside two weeks of release, features are already decided.
