Content ID and social platforms: included or per release

Both keep 20% of YouTube Content ID revenue. The difference is the entry fee. UnitedMasters charges $4.99 per release to opt in to Content ID, and $2.99 per release each for Meta and TikTok monetisation, or $7.99 for all three. On TempoDigital, Content ID is part of every plan, run from our own Content ID networks, and TikTok, Facebook and Instagram are delivered like any other store.

For one release the fees are small. Across a catalogue of twenty releases, $7.99 each comes to $159.80.

If your membership ends

UnitedMasters says that when a membership is not renewed, releases are taken down from all music services. You then have a year to resubscribe and have them delivered again with their streams; after that it deletes its records and you would upload from scratch. Since October 2025 its free DEBUT tier no longer distributes music.

On TempoDigital, nothing is taken down because a plan lapses. Your releases stay in the stores and new deliveries wait until you renew. See the terms.

Which one should you choose?

UnitedMasters may suit you better if

  • You want brand partnerships and sync deals: SELECT gives access to them
  • You want to cash out at any time, with daily payouts on SELECT, rather than wait for a monthly statement
  • You hope to be invited to PARTNER for hands-on artist services and advances
  • You want a low entry price: DEBUT+ is $19.99 a year

TempoDigital may suit you better if

  • You want Content ID and the social platforms without a fee per release
  • You want your releases to stay live if a payment is missed
  • You release only now and then and would rather pay $8.99 per release than a yearly fee
  • You run a label of up to ten artists
  • You also need publishing administration, or are in the Balkans or the diaspora and want a team that speaks your language

Moving from UnitedMasters

Start well before your renewal date, because UnitedMasters removes releases when a membership ends. Deliver each release again with its original ISRCs and UPC while your membership is still active, wait until it is live everywhere, then have the UnitedMasters copy taken down. Play counts and playlist placements normally carry over with the codes. If you opted releases into Content ID there, those claims have to be released before we can claim the recordings. The steps are in how to switch distributors.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Does UnitedMasters still have a free plan?

Not for distribution. Its help centre says free DEBUT accounts stopped distributing on 29 October 2025; releasing now needs a paid DEBUT+ or SELECT membership.

Is Content ID cheaper with TempoDigital?

Both keep 20% of Content ID revenue. UnitedMasters also charges $4.99 per release to opt in; with us it is included in every plan.

What happens to my releases if I leave UnitedMasters?

UnitedMasters says releases are taken down when a membership is not renewed, with a year to resubscribe and get them back. Deliver with us first, using the same ISRCs and UPC, so the music is never offline.

Will I lose my Spotify streams if I move?

Not if the new delivery uses the same ISRCs and UPC and goes live before the UnitedMasters copy is removed. See how to switch distributors.
